Nigeria
Aruike Specialty Hospital commenced its out-patient clinical services on the 1st of October 2016. By April 2017, ASH had treated more than 3000 patients with an average of 25 to 30 patients per day. Before the establishment of the Aruike Specialty Hospital, the medical care in the area was inadequate and prohibitively expensive for local people. This led to unacceptable rates of infant and adult mortality as well as high rates of infectious diseases, and other illnesses. The nearest hospital and doctor were five miles away and were unaffordable for most villagers. It is certain that the free medical care provided by the hospital will have a substantial impact on the wellbeing of local people, reducing morbidity and mortality. Providing high-quality health care in a loving environment will also help children struggling with illness to succeed in their studies and will boost the productivity of all those of working age who are often debilitated by illness. The ASH doctors’ lodge was constructed in July 2017 which is located within the hospital premises and will allow doctors to provide around the clock care for their patients. To date, the hospital is seeing an average of 75 -80 patients a day.
FROM NIGERIA TO INDIA FOR A LIFE SAVING OPERATION
Nifemi, 10 years of age, from Ogun State in Nigeria was the first intercontinental patient of the Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani International Centre for Child Heart Care & Research, Palwal, India. She had suffered with Congenital Heart Disease from birth; struggling to run and play like other children in her school. Nifemi’s mother was raising three other children making it difficult to continue with Nifemi’s frequent necessary visits to clinics and hospitals. Her father, earning a modest salary as a teacher, sought the support of his friends, relatives and church members to fund the treatment that Nifemi required. This took a toll on their family life, but they had continued to have faith in God that one day Nifemi would be cured of her condition.
Nifemi’s mother heard about Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani through a friend and was in complete disbelief. She could not understand how a hospital could provide free treatment and save her child. By the grace of God, the family managed to make their long journey to Palwal, India. On 30th April 2018, the family’s faith in God took form as Nifemi was cured Totally Free of Cost, in a land over 8000km away from her home! Nifemi’s mother was overwhelmed with gratitude towards the hospital, stating that all the staff here exhibited immense love and care for her daughter. Nifemi herself expressed her desire to become a doctor to save children in similar situations like hers.
The hospital in Enugu will soon be able to provide the children of Nigeria these heart saving operations as doctors from India and overseas will be performing these surgeries free of cost.
